That’s right, the folks at the 3D search site for NYC now has a Facebook app.

To all of the nay-sayers in my office: “I’m right! You can do that stuff in Facebook. So, take off!”

GIS Texts and Amazon Kindle

It’s late, and I’m flipping channels and I stopped at PBS where Jeff Bezos of Amazon was on Charlie Rose introducing the Amazon Kindle. I became totally intrigued about the device, especially since I’m a grad school student hoofin’ a large amount of books around. I was also interested whether it had texts on GIS and other related topics that I may be reading soon. So, I looked at Amazon’s Kindle site, did a search for “GIS” and came back with a ton of hits for Kindle enabled products. Although, the GIS texts for Kindle look like they’re still the same price as the hardcopy and ESRI Press books are not enabled for Kindle.

Anyway, I think I’d like to try it out. Perhaps I’ll wait for the second edition that has a GPS and someone’s slippy maps rolling across it enabled with MetaCarta OnDemand so I know where I’m reading about.

GIS Day in Redlands: All is Calm

One would think there would be a parade, a Forest Service water tanker fly-over, or children running through the streets with ArcPad in-hand on their day off. Not so.

But rumors have it that 9.3 will be released 2Q 2008.

NCGIA: Workshop on Volunteered Geographic Information

Comments

The National Center for Geographic Information & Analysis at UC Santa Barbara is partnering with Los Alamos National Labs and the Vespucci Institute to hold a two-day workshop in December to address research initiatives about “Volunteered Geographic Information.”  Dr. Michael Goodchild is leading the workshop to discuss with a number of others interested in VGI.

I guess it was a matter of time before there was academic research into this area and a meeting other than Where 2.0 to show off the goods.  I guess GIS or geographic information as a media is pretty important to study. Especially when it comes to the have’s and have not’s in this world when it comes to access to tell stories about themselves. I wish I could go to watch, this would be a pretty good meeting to be at to see what comes from all of this.
